Today, Canada kicks off the 2026 Census. It’s the first time I’ll be filling it out in my own place, first time doing it without my family. I’ll be honest, I’m a little excited and wouldn’t mind getting the long form.

It’s also the first time I’ll fill out the census since I’ve transitioned. There are a couple questions about gender; Statistics Canada talked about how they improved the ordering and wording for 2026 here. But overall, I’m looking forward to it. Being part of the numbers to show that we’re here, we’re not a blip, and we aren’t going away. There are rights we need to protect, and so much more to fight for. Pride can’t be stopped that easily. If I can contribute to the data that helps to drive real change, I absolutely will.

In a weird twist, I’m proud to be a statistic.
